A patio can be a beautiful addition to any home and it can be a great place to relax with friends and family. Like your house, your patio should reflect your own personal style. And, with plenty of choices available, we will take a look at what some of your options are, and how easy it is to clean them.
Paver Patio's
One of the most low maintenance options although it can come at a higher cost. To install a paver patio there is a huge portion of groundwork often needed which can lead to an increase in installation time.
In addition, the patio will need to be cleaned and sealed which should increase the life of your patio. In terms of maintenance, it will require regular brushing and washing to remove debris and reduce seed germination. Furthermore, frequent weeding, filling joints and sealing paving stone is also required.
Brick Patio's
Brick patios are a classic option for patios and have a rather widespread appeal. The traditional choice is red brick but there are many other color options as well such as brown, black, tan, cream, gray, buff, and even pink.
The downside to brick patios is they don’t react well to cold climates like a paver patio. This means that you might have trouble with cracking after a while. In addition, you might also experience issues such as weeds and grass growing through – particularly when dealing with sand-set brick.
Brick patios should be maintained by spot cleaning stubborn stains, rinsing off the brickwork, and using a sand infill to reduce movement in the brickwork.
Flagstones
Flagstones are installed in the form of irregular slabs of stone which can provide a unique one-of-a-kind appearance to your patio. Flagstone is highly durable and is least less likely to crack or warp when exposed to the elements. Finally, termites and other pests will not damage flagstone like they would wood-type patios like decking.
You should regularly sweep your flagstone paving. This will ensure that loose dirt and plant debris don’t sit on the stone for prolonged periods and cause stains. If spot cleaning of stains or mold is required bleach or muriatic acid diluted with water can be used. You may also use a cleaner developed especially for flagstone.
Slate Patio
Natural stone slate patios are beautiful and come in a variety of shades to get the look and feel that you want. They can be manufactured as regular cut tiles or as rough stones to help you get the design you want.
Your regular maintenance of slate patio includes removing any loose dirt by sweeping, dusting, or mopping. It can then be jet washed, dried and a sealant applied.
